6-10 mm
Identification
At 6-10 mm, larger than Ellipes (4-5 mm), hind tibia have four pairs of long slender plates used in swimming. Hind tarsi have one segment--hind tarsi absent in Ellipes (1).
Range
N. apicalis is widespread in eastern North America, and also found in Southwest.
Habitat
Sandy shores, bars, etc.
