Carabid - Schizogenius

Carabid - Schizogenius
Vanderpool, Bandera County, Texas, USA
August 8, 2010

Thanks Tim
and Peter! Always nice to get a new genus...

At least 9 species of Schizogenius are known in TX
which can be separated using the technical key to all of the North & Middle American species by Whitehead (1972) in Quaestiones entomologicae 8 (3): 131 - 348. Graham, you do have the option of mailing me the specimen as a "photo-voucher" for accurate species identification if you wish.

I'm afraid
I didn't collect him. Although I will next time I see one.

Schizogenius sp.
due to presence of longitudinal grooves on the frons. Surprised to see that this is the first image of the genus in the guide...

A genius call
by Tim with split decisions regarding this new genus not expected!
