Spider on Pantleg - Acanthepeira stellata

Spider on Pantleg - Acanthepeira stellata
Sharon, Windsor County, Vermont, USA
August 16, 2003
Sorry for the lousy quality. I'm hoping to get some idea what group this is in. I tried browsing the guide but couldn't find anything similar.

Yes
See here.
Unfortunately, all the images are grouped under one species, and there are at least two (my personal submissions, which I going to move) and possibly more.
I do not remember the page being like that.

Thanks Guys
Should I move this to Frass?

Maybe not
It could be something other than stellata.

North American lists has four
Genus Acanthepeira Marx, 1883 [4 species]

Acanthepeira cherokee Levi, 1976
MD, VA, NC, GA, AL, MS, AR, MO, IL, FL, TX

Acanthepeira marion Levi, 1976
PA, KY, IL, MO, LA, MS, AL, GA, FL, SC, NC, TN

Acanthepeira stellata (Walckenaer, 1805)
MB, ON, PQ, ME, NH, VT, MA, RI, CT, NY, NJ, DE, MD, VA, WV, NC, SC, GA, FL, AL, TN, KY, OH, MI, IN, IL, WI, MN, MO, KS, OK, TX, LA, MS, NM, AZ

Acanthepeira venusta (Banks, 1896)
VA, NC, SC, GA, FL

But we don't know how to tell them apart yet. But Vermont may make the decision easy.

Good
point.

VT
species[state=="VT"] == "Acanthepeira stellata"
.

orb weaver
probably an orb weaver (Araneidae)

cant really tell from the picture but maybe something in the genus Acanthepeira?
