Peppered jumper - Pelegrina galathea - male

Peppered jumper - Pelegrina galathea - Male
Buck Creek State Park, Clark County, Ohio, USA
October 2, 2005
Size: About 4mm
Captured and later photographed in captivity.

This species is usually found on short shrubs and in grassy areas.

In late summer through early winter I've found them very common in the dried umbels of wild carrot. The females are especially easy to find due to their thicker retreat.

ID based on drawings at Salticidae.org and tolweb.org.

Sorry this one is a little messy. I'm still figuring out these little .5mm subjects. 5 images shot at f/4, stacked with Helicon Focus.
