Brown Trig - Neonemobius near-mormonius - female

Brown Trig - Neonemobius near-mormonius - Female
Spiderweb, Aiken County, South Carolina, USA
August 5, 2010
Attracted to light.

This is a Ground Cricket,
and appears to belong to this apparently unnamed species (or groups of species).

The resemblance to Anaxipha is striking, but this is a somewhat stockier insect; hind tibiae with spines shorter; and, with front wings a bit more opaque with different venation. The ovipositor is usually a good clue, but in this genus it is also short and curves up a bit, which is similar to Anaxipha.

Moved from Brown Trigs.
