white mayfly - Maccaffertium

Dorsal markings...

seem to indicate Maccaffertium modestum, mediopunctatum, or pulchellum. There doesn't seem to be any conclusive way to separate them (except maybe association with males or rearing of the eggs), and all three species are recorded for Ontario.

Roger Rohrbeck's website, click on distributions, and enter the postal abbreviation for the Canadian province or US state you want to check. Distribution records are very fluid and some states/provinces have more complete records than others, but Roger's site is a very convenient way to get a sense of what's been recorded. Oh, and if you want to check Quebec, enter "PQ." As a Canadian, you probably already knew that, but it took me a while to figure it out. :)

for that link, Lloyd; I've bookmarked it in my browser for future reference. Thanks also for the tip that Roger is still using the former postal abbreviation for Quebec (PQ was changed to QC about 20 years ago).

Thanks for pointing out this discrepancy. Have added QC to each instance of PQ in table supporting N. American Mayfly Distribution query. Now use of either will work.
