NOT itsy bitsy!!! - Dolomedes tenebrosus
Fleetwood, Pennsylvania, USA
June 27, 2004
I found this spider today while outside in my back yard, pulling weeds. It was sitting on the firewood pile. It's about 3-4 inches long. If anyone has any idea as to what kind of spider it is, I'd surely appreciate it.

I vote fishing spider
In the genus Dolomedes.

Dolomedes female
Probably Dolomedes tenebrosus, and really ready to lay an egg case:-) I usually find this species in the VERTICAL plane, on tree trunks, walls, and such, as opposed to finding large wolf spiders in the HORIZONTAL plane (on the ground, logs, rocks).
