odd caterpillar - Olceclostera angelica

odd caterpillar - Olceclostera angelica
Knob Noster, Johnson County, Missouri, USA
August 21, 2010
Size: 1 1/2 inches
I found this odd caterpillar stuck to a limb on a small (unidentified tree). It was light gray with slight color markings on it. It blended in with the limb so well I almost didn't see it. I have never seen anything like it, and was wondering what it will grow up to be.

Moved
Moved from ID Request. Yes, Good call. We'll move it there.

What an interesting caterpillar!
Is it in a location where you can photograph it as it matures? Better yet would you be interested in raising it and photographing it as it changes? That way you might get an adult image to help with the ID. There is an article here on how to do it.

This was photographed at Knob
This was photographed at Knob Noster SP in Knob Noster, MO. I left it where it was. I sent this image to another friend of mine and they feel it is "The Angel"(Olceclostera angelica) and after looking it up here on the guide it sure does look the same. What do you think?
