C. scrutator
The greater head/mandible length relative to body length, plus your recollection of size and the range and intensity of color on this specimen all point to C. scrutator.

C. willcoxi?
Could be Calosoma willcoxi, which is virtually identical to C. scrutator, but quite a bit smaller.

our best estimate of size is 20 - 25 mm, but it was 25 years ago!
