Seirarctia echo

Seirarctia echo
Florida, USA
what is it?

seirarctia echo
Add Sarasota County, (Englewood) FL to the list.

Carla, you can add Putnam Co.
Carla, you can add Putnam Co. and St. Johns Co. to the Florida list. The larvae feed on persimmon trees in the open longleaf pines woods near Lake Delancy (Ocala Forest, Hwy 19). In the early 70's I saw a larva on "coontie" on SR 207 near US 1. Adults were seen at lights (and a few collected) at a truck stop at that intersection in St. Johns Co. I believe that this species will be found in Seminole Co. and Lake Co. around the Wekiva River area. In Lake Co. there is the Seminole State Forest and SR 433 in the Wekiva Springs State Park off SR46. These are excellent places to look in April and May.

Not common?
According to this site there are only confirmed records in 8 counties in FL. http://www.npwrc.usgs.gov/resource/distr/lepid/moths/fl/1823.htm
