Acacesia hamata Male? - Acacesia hamata - male

Acacesia hamata Male? - Acacesia hamata - Male
Montrose, Laurens County, Georgia, USA
August 19, 2010
Size: approx. 8 mm
Found on rose bush leaf. I am fairly certain I got the ID correct, but the foreshortened nature of the abdomen gives me pause. The apparently over-large encephelathorax and comparatively small abdomen seems to be a feature of many males of different species this year. Is there a reason? Am I merely seeing almost-mature specimens?
