Scorpion in my bathroom - Paruroctonus utahensis

Scorpion in my bathroom - Paruroctonus utahensis
Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA
August 30, 2010
Size: 1-2 inches
Sorry the image quality isn't that great. I didn't want to get near the thing!
I've found two in the last week. This one was bout 1 1/2" long, the other one was 1" long.
Identifying features would be the 6 longitudinal stripes on its mid-section. The color is tan, like the dirt everywhere around here. The bigger one (this picture) had a black spot on the back of it's head.
What kind is it?

Harmless...
Thanks Lynnette for moving this here, I really appreciate it when y'all do that! =)
It's difficult to tell for sure, but I'd say with some certainty this is Paruroctonus utahensis, quite common in sand dunes and related habitats. So, is your home in a very sandy, dunes and hummocks, area? The other possibility is Vaejovis russelli, which is also found in sandy soils, but not sand dunes. They have reddish fingers, so I'm pretty safe with P. utahensis.
In either case, these (and all scorpions in the Santa Fe area known or suspected so far) are harmless.
The black spots on its head are its median eyes. Paruroctonus species tend to have larger eyes than other genera in America. The other one with stripes might have been Vaejovis coahuilae or Centruroides vittatus. A photo would easily prove which one.
The next time you see any scorpions, please catch them and let me know... I am involved in a survey of the scorpions of New Mexico with Dr. David Sissom and we have few records from the Santa Fe area.

Scorpion
I don't know much about these, but I'd say it's the kind you want to steer clear of. I'm moving this to another page where maybe an expert will see it.
