yellow-and-gray larva - Diprion similis

yellow-and-gray larva - Diprion similis
Thedford Conservation Area, Lambton, Ontario, Canada
September 21, 2004
Size: 10-15 mm
sandy grassy area beside river

Dark eyespot and hooked abdomen
just like a sawfly larva, and looks like it might have quite a few prolegs, but we have many unidentified sawfly larvae in the guide. Is this the beginnings of a pupa?

Looks like
an Introduced Pine Sawfly that's starting to pupate.

pattern looks good
Thanks Tom and J&J; image moved to species page from ID Request.
