unipunctatus - Phidippus audax - male

unipunctatus - Phidippus audax - Male
Florida, USA
Its abdominal pattern remained nearly identical to what it was as a small juvenile. The carapace bands filled in nicely the final two molts. Jeff has been raising audax mainly from the Jackson County area, and I have been raising them from the Gilchrist-Alachua Counties area. We've observed that the carapace bands tend to develop earlier in the Jackson County specimens, whereas the ones that I have raised often develop the carapace bands the final two or three instars. Also, the Jackson County specimens seem to have more developed carapace bands, meaning that they are fused together. The specimens that I have raised usually have a gap between the bands. Since we haven't raised many specimens from multiple pairs, I can't say for sure if this is the trend for the two regions or just from working with a couple isolated gene pools.
