Maybe C. lateralis but pale stripe is not clear and there may additional species in FL I am not familiar with.

Moved from Negro Bugs. after keying to genus with present reference

Thanks! I guess those student projects are useful after all. I only made a key to the species of Streblidae and Nycteribiidae found in Florida (which is rich in bats, but poor in parasites).

I'll vote for Negro Bug
The huge scutellum and high-domed profile look more like Negro Bug than Burrowing Bug to me.

Burrowing Bug?
My guess is Burrowing Bug.

You're both right:-)
This is what was formerly(?) called a "negro bug," but that family has since been lumped with the burrower bugs. What, if anything, that had to do with the common epithet is left to one's imagination. My co-author on the field guide suggested they be called "ebony bugs," which is fine by me, too.

Only in English...
Chuck Entz could give us the complete philology. I can say with authority only that negro in Spanish is what you call the color black. I suppose Black Bugs is a little too plain :-)

...
Either way, is the Bugguide taxonomy going to be changed to reflect the new family status of these bugs?

I'll yield to Eric.
He knows what he's talking about. I'm just a beetle buff who tries to help out and, often as not, gets it wrong.
