Which Orbweaver please... - Araneus marmoreus
Brighton, Northumberland, Ontario, Canada
September 11, 2010
This is the first orbweaver I have seen and am confused between the Lattice and the Marbled Orbweaver. Could someone help with the ID.
Thanks in advance.

Moved from ID Request.

Those two are very different in size.
This looks relatively large and from the marbled look of the front of the abdomen, we would say Araneus marmoreus. Also check out the images under thaddeus and look for those that show the latticed retreat. In our experience, that retreat is unmistakable.

Size
That's a good idea -- to point out size differences. Something we (I) too easily overlook when looking at images only.
