Old shelf fungus ciids - Ceracis - male - female

Old shelf fungus ciids - Ceracis - Male Female
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
March 18, 2006
Size: about 1.8 mm
I got some more interesting, more colorful shots of this presumably new species of ciid (new for me and for bugguide). Shown here is a small herd of one bull and two cows. The male is the one with the horns.

This image illustrates a recommendation I have for anyone else (with better lenses hopefully) who wants to photograph these tiny beetles. Give one or more ciids a tiny piece of whatever type fungus you found them in and they will tirelessly circumnavigate it, presenting all sorts of views and profiles that would take much longer to capture on a flat surface.
