Unidentified hexapod - Cinara

Unidentified hexapod - Cinara
Wilmington, New York, USA
September 1, 2010
Size: ~2-4mm
Found mid-morning on alpine summit of Whiteface Mountain, ~ 4000 ft (1200m); I can't see any wings or wing-buds, which leads me to believe it is the immature form of something. Summit landscape dominated by exposed rock and alpine plant community (sphagnum moss, labrador tea, etc.).

Moved from Aphids.

ID
Yes, Cinara.

looks like an adult aphid to me
sorry can't help you past that, but perhaps a member of the Lachninae(1)

Some sp. of Aphid
Interesting. There were also Balsam Fir and Red Spruce at the summit. Perhaps a giant conifer (Cinara sp.) aphid?
