This mosquito was feeding on a Sedum flower in a garden. A male I think.

Tiger?
I wonder if they make "Tiger" mosquitoes (Aedes albopictus) in dark brown instead of black.

 
yep, a male
It is a tiger. Could be just the exposure that is making this one appear lighter.

 
It could be...
the polarizing filter. In the raw file the mesosoma appears black but the overlying scales appear white and dark brown. I have seen papers on the effects of polarization on the color mixing in butterfly and moth scales.

 
Don't know...
but following up a comment under Ae. albopictus I took a look at Ae. aegypti and it looks a lot like that as well.
