A. trifolium male - Araneus trifolium - male

A. trifolium male - Araneus trifolium - Male
5 mi. south of Port Angeles, ~2,000 ft. elevation, Clallam County, Washington, USA
September 14, 2010
Size: ~0.8 cm (excluding legs)
I saw this male on the web of a female, but didn't see them mate.
Both spiders traversed the horizontal silk above the web proper, but never seemed to interact, though they came close together.

Identification by comparison to other photos in the guide.

This is the same bower/web shown in #8 in this slideshow.

spider name
ok the pictures you posted look like the same spider I had hanging out living on the foundation wall of my house but when I look up the name Araneus trifolium in the National Wildlife Federation Insects and spiders of North american book well it says the common name is a shamrock orbweaver and the picture looks absolutely noting like the pictures we have. and the other name is comes back as a marbled orbweaver and looks nothing like the spider pictures we have. The spider I took pictures of and watched for a few days lived on my wall and would go under the bottom shingle for shelter.. no web. possible webbing on wall I couldnt see but its abdomen is more diamond shaped then round of the orb weavers..So im at a loss it seems.. The spider looks similiar to a yellow sac spider I think.. I am just trying to make sure its not dangerous.
