Buprestis rufipes

Buprestis rufipes
7 Km East of Paw Paw, Morgan County, West Virginia, USA
July 23, 1989
Size: 20 mm
Sunning on rotten but still standing White Oak tree.

Buprestis rufipes
These beetles are fairly widespread and not uncommon in Maryland. I have even seen them in a suburban area of Baltimore City. They can be found on Tulip Tree, White Oak, and Cherry but seem to really go for American Beech. Usually they are found sunning on the trunks of declining to newly dead trees with the bark still tight but I have also found them on fairly rotten hardwoods as well.
