Neoscona crucifera??? - Neoscona crucifera - female

Neoscona crucifera??? - Neoscona crucifera - Female
Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, USA
September 16, 2010
Size: .75 inch
This gorgeous spider built a web spanning 5 feet across a walkway at eye level. I'm not sure how I didn't run face-first into it, but I'm glad I didn't. I took these pics over a span of three days, both at night and during the day.

Yes, Neoscona crucifera
looks to be a good call.

There are lots of these around my way.
I am finding a huge color difference between individuals of this species. Some are light brown--almost tan--like this one. Others are dark brown like the color of wet dirt.
