Syrphid fly or bee? I don't know how to tell the difference. I am guessing this is a syrphid fly.

The eyes have it.
After you've looked at enough bee and fly images, you'll notice that bees and flies have quite different eye configurations. There are several other differences, but the eyes are the easiest to learn to recognize to start with.

Megachile sp.
Note the long elbowed antennae, and you can just barely see some pollen collecting on the underside of the abdomen. John Ascher might be able to provide a species ID, or at least subgenus.
