Sphinx caterpillar - Hemaris diffinis

Sphinx caterpillar - Hemaris diffinis
LaFayette, Walker County, Georgia, USA
October 4, 2009
I found this caterpillar on a camping trip last fall. It really looks like Hemaris diffinis to me, but what's with the stubby horn? A healed injury?
