The white line on the side in guttivatta always seems
to have a break around A6 or A7 which we don't see in these images. We would agree with a southwestern relative of Heterocampa (we assume this image is taken in New Mexico) Bruce Walsh lists the following Heterocampa for Arizona, but unfortunately no larval images: Heterocampa subrotata [ MONA 7985 ] Foodplants: Hackberry( Celtis)
Heterocampa ditta [ MONA 7986 ] Type location: Santa Catalina Mts.
Heterocampa benitensis [ MONA 7987 ]
Heterocampa incongrua [ MONA 7989 ]
Heterocampa averna [ MONA 7991 ] Foodplants: Quercus emoryi
Heterocampa lunata [ MONA 7993 ]
Heterocampa ruficornis [ MONA 7996 ] Type location: Palmerlee (Huachuca Mts. )

You might try contacting Dr Walsh directly. We don't know how willing he is to spend any time on photos?? His website is here

Heterocampa caterpillar
I'm not 100% sure of the species, but take a look at this one: .

Caterpillar
Similar but no stripe on the side. Maybe a related species.

These caterpillars vary considerably.
Some do have stripes on the side:

See more here. Of course, it could, as you say, be one of the related species.
