Thank You!
I was not giving this fellow much of a chance ever getting beyond family. Thanks for figuring this out!

Brad cracked the code
Brad Barnd identified a specimen. After that it's a simple matter of finding a photo that looks the same.

Moved from Flies.

Unlikely
Dorsocentrals 2+3, acrostichals ?+3, M bent at right angle, wing membrane with fine wrinkles. Unlikely to be Muscidae. My guess is a worn Pollenia.

Calliphora sp.?
Thanks for the correction. It doesn't seem to have the tiny hairs on the thorax. Would that rule out Pollenia? I'll have to remember to get a side shot next time.

Bellardia?
Could be Bellardia, a genus I was unaware of until recently.

Hairs fall off
Old Pollenia lose their golden fur.
