Yersiniops, but that's just a guess to file for future reference when you look at them again. The genus may not even be in your area.

Thanks David. I have been looking for the californica(sp?)but I only seem to have the s limbata. I didn't see any of the beige skinny ones in the grass this year. I am just learning things. Thanks again.

Stagmomantis limbata

Amazing sight.... Those are Stagmomantis limbata (Arizona mantis). Female will only accept a spermatophore from the males. Usually the first male that connected with the female.

Wow thanks. I love my mantis. I have a few different kinds I think. I have long thin ones like the ones in the pic but they are cream colored and I find them in the wheat grass. maybe they are the same kind but they adapt to their color environment?? could that be? I was thrilled to catch this on film. She is down to just one now and they are locked. I had 19 all together! I always have a lot of them every season. So the Arizona mantis can be in northern Ca.? thank you for the information. I will post a pic of them still together.

This species can have several

This species can have several color morph. Humidity, environment, lighting, and genetic are several factors for the body color. Most of them will be green. Stagmomantis limbata is widespread on Western part of the USA while Stagmomantis carolina is more common on the east.

Thank you Yen. this lady has been on my wall everyday since I posted this. she has been connected to at least 7 males in those days. she is still there today with yet another male waiting to hook up. I hope she lays her egg sack where I can watch it. Also at one point there were 31 males surrounding her. It was remarkable.
