yellow ant - Myrmica

yellow ant - Myrmica
Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
March 25, 2006
Size: 5mm

Oops! Myrmicinae - callow worker
This ant is no Tetramorium: postpetiolus is too narrow, head not stout enough and antennae too thin for this. Instead, genus Myrmica seems the most likely. Indeed, would this worker come from Europe, I would tell Myrmica rubra, alias M. laevinodis, without hesitating: all visible critical features are matching.
