Eager to pupate? - Acronicta americana

Eager to pupate? - Acronicta americana
Pacific, Franklin County, Missouri, USA
September 29, 2010
Size: 45 mm
On a porch rail beneath a walnut tree when discovered, but this morning when I placed it on a small oak for photography, it seemed to want nothing more than to head for the ground ... to pupate?

Moved
It looks like two pairs fo tufts and a singleton, to me, but nonetheless, point well taken, Tom.
Moved, accordingly.
Thanks.

There's so many look alike caterpillars
I've seen a bunch of these, and can tell the difference. On the other hand, if it was an ant, I'd be the one who doesn't know what I photographed:-)

How about an American Dagger caterpillar
The 3 pairs of black tufts make it look like this one.
