Are these the same species? - Sphaeropthalma marpesia - male - female

Are these the same species? - Sphaeropthalma marpesia - Male Female
Antelope Island, Davis County, Utah, USA
October 1, 2010
The male Velvet Ant came in to investigate the female but left shortly after checking her out thoroughly. I was wondering if they were the same species.

Moved from Velvet Ants.

I'm guessing
Sphaeropthalma marpesia (female) and Dasymutilla vesta (male).

If the female is S. marpesia, it's odd that she was out during the day.

George is right on
These are different species and George's IDs are correct.

Thanks...
Thanks, Kevin!

Thank you...
I saw a couple more like her. It was a big day for velvet ants. Thanks for the IDs.
