Some Argyrodes elevatus and some not sure. - Argyrodes elevatus
Chalk Mountain area , Somervell County, Texas, USA
September 27, 2010
Link to close up of this individual follows these comments and thumbs.

I have added a number of thumbnails of images to this one for context since all shot together. A colony if you will. They are not linked since they are not one individual. Within the set of thumbs, those that I know are same individual are linked to each other.

All were taken Sept 27 and Sept 29 on three Argiope aurantia webs a short distance apart. All appearance variations shown were on all three webs. Selection was for best images. Windy conditions meant lots of out of focus misses.

Many seem to be Argyrodes elevatus. Others are not so certain since while they are similar size, shape, and behavior, and seemed to interact, they have significant patterning in orange, yellow, brown with or without silver. Images include female, male, including m-f interaction, and apparent immatures (based on size down to less than 1 mm.) Some group shots for scaling. Also includes feeding on wrapped carcass and on unwrapped insects too small to interest Argiope aurantia. A few show them adding silk to the web including pulling two parallel strands together to attach mid-span.

Some images have additional comments.

Note on comments
Most of the comments below refer to the original format I used, which I have revised, so don't try to make sense of them.

I have rearranged the thumbnails into the groups where editors moved them. Also many of the original images have been deleted from the database, so I removed those thumb links from the list.

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

A. elevatus
I think this one is elavatus.

me too
which is why I used it as the anchor image for thumbs

Linking
Please follow the "same individual" convention even when in ID Request. I have been trying to fix these but you keep relinking. You can use "thumb"s to link different individuals.

I was using only for id reque
I was using only for id request. Didd not intend to keep linked aftyer that.

Anyway, OK. I will stop link. Just so I can keep context of "colony". I couldn't keep track of individuals as they moved while I was looking through camera trying to focus in wind on several different individuals.

I'm not sure what you mean by thumbs but I will try to look up.

Look under the help tab at top...
And then read the section on "Markups". I believe the info you need is in there...

Can you link
those from web 1 together.
then link those from web 2 (but not to those from web 1)
etc.

reply
I may be able to determine which web using date-time with notes of which between thumbs. But there was no apparent difference in population between webs. BugGuide rules are that only same individual is to be linked.

Images
From what I've seen the way the are now looks good.
