Vonones sayi
Douglasville, Paulding County, Georgia, USA
March 28, 2006
These were a new find for me. I found 2 of them together under an old walking stone. A very handsome species of harvestman. I wished I could've taken better photos, but they did not like being exposed and removed from their hideaway, and they did not want to sit still.

I believe these to be the same thing I encountered decades ago near my home. I kept a small colony for awhile and observed feeding/mating behavior. I'd been looking under every rotten piece of wood I came across in this locale for ~30 years before I ever encountered these and I've never seen any again. They were found under decayed wood on the bank of a tributary to Maline Creek which had been diverted to follow the ballast of a rail line which blocked the natural path of the tributary. For all I know they may have been rail line xplants--brought in by some sort of material falling off a train at some point and not local. I'd be interested in hearing about any other sightings of these creatures near my location.
