Oil Beetles - Meloe campanicollis - male - female

Oil Beetles - Meloe campanicollis - Male Female
Camden County, New Jersey, USA
October 11, 2010
Mating Oil Beetles. I suspect these are Meloe campanicollis.

They were found in the same area as this one (about a year later though):

Every year at about the same time (early October), hundreds of these beetles appear and mate in the same area of Blueberry Hill Nature Preserve (a small park with biking/hiking trails) in Gibbsboro, New Jersey. GPS Coordinates of the "swarm" are 39.829331,-74.96069 (based on Google Maps).
