Bumpy Beetle

Bumpy Beetle
Orange County, California, USA
March 23, 2006
Size: 15-20mm
Ran so fast I could barely focus. Unusual texture, huh?

Moved

oops
looking over some of my old dets, I think I made a mistake on the species...

Same genus though?
Should it be moved back to genus or do (will you) have a new species name?

asidini
for now can it be moved to Asidini? sorry, don't have a reference collection with this particular creature in it near by.

Moved
Moved from Darkling Beetles.

Microschatia
probably Microschatia inaequalis Solier

Tenebrionidae
is where I would place it.

Maybe it's an import?
Jim, I think you've got the right idea. I ran through "tenebrionidae" Google images and found a couple hundred.

Closest I could come to mine were two insects at a Russian site, called blaps rugosa and anatolica undulata. Blaps?

Ron Hemberger
Irvine, Orange Co., Calif.

Probably domestic
We really have very few western tenebs on bugguide, and in the western US is where they reside in greatest number and variety.

Asidini
Subfamily: Pimeliinae, Tribe: Asidini
