Grasshopper 6 - Dissosteira pictipennis - female

Grasshopper 6 - Dissosteira pictipennis - Female
Big Basin Redwoods State Park, Slippery Rock, Santa Cruz County, California, USA
October 16, 2010
When he landed, I thought the wings had a yellow tinge. The last shot I took I noticed he had disappeared, I looked up and saw red wings. I followed, but couldn't make him out in the grass, but got a grasshopper to move, red wings, but was never able to ascertain that this was the same one I was taking a photo of.

This kind has red wings,
so odds are good it was all the same hopper you saw.

Moved from ID Request.

thanks!
If I hadn't been trying to lay on the ground while carrying a 20 lb pack and manage the camera at the same time, I wanted some other shots of it too.

Quite pretty, and allowed me to get right up to it for many good photos.
