Hi, neighbor!
I also live in San Marcos and am nuts about insects; always have been. Your wheelbug is a fierce looking critter for sure. The "profile" shot really captured it's menacing look. I've never been bitten by one and I don't want to start now. Good luck with your entomological adventures.

 
wheel bug...
Just got bitten 2 days ago. Hurt worst than a wasp sting. Now it itches. They love my garden. I DON'T love them!
