I'm not sure if this will be the final color of this recently-emerged individual. Other images on the Web show the lighter, non-metallic spots either yellow or orange.

The secret to my patience: Have scores of beetle pupae, like I do at the moment, and they'll keep you hopping as you attempt to record every phase. No time to sit around and "be patient." :-)

What appeals to me about insect photography versus collecting is that I'm able to share what I see and learn with a great many more people. It's a bit like poetry, much of which involves revealing the interesting nature of things that are in plain sight but seldom noticed or appreciated.
