Scymnus or Stethorus -
Stethorus punctum
Cawston, Okanagan-Similkameen, British Columbia, Canada
July 3, 2009
Size: about 1.2 mm in length
Commonly found in grape juice traps in apple orchards. I am thinking this is a species in the genus
Scymnus
.

probably Stethorus punctum picipes
Solid black above and below with dark legs rules out Scymnus. The ventral image shows the prosternum partially concealing the mouthparts, diagnostic for Stethorus. I wish I could see the postcoxal line, but the dark femur and paler tibia/tarsus point pretty definitely to S. punctum picipes.

thanks for the ventral photos!
I couldn't do it without your ventral images, I am so glad you take the time to photograph the venters! Some beetle specialists don't even do that.
