Gate spider - Latrodectus geometricus

Gate spider - Latrodectus geometricus
Huntington Beach, Orange County, California, USA
September 19, 2010

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

The pattern reminds me of
a male Western Black Widow (Latrodectus hesperus):

I'm sure there are other possibilities, though, so please wait to hear from the spider experts.

Widow
It certainly is a widow. I'm not sure which species. The female brown widow and the male western black widow can look similar.

Compare the male Western in the thumb above to this female Brown

Yes
It is a brown widow, geometricus.
