A Tibicen cicada - Cacama valvata

A Tibicen cicada - Cacama valvata
Chihuahua Woods TNC Preserve, Hidalgo County, Texas, USA
April 4, 2005
Size: 1.5 inches
In very dry situation. The only trees present in the area were low honey mesquite (Prosopis)

Cacama valvata
The very narrow head, and that white band across the base of the abdomen, are both distinctive. And yes, they do like to sit on cactus. Maybe the spines help to protect them?

Not so sure.
This might be a Diceroprocta sp., or another genus I am not familiar with.
