blue caterpillar?

blue caterpillar?
Tavares, Lake County, Florida, USA
April 10, 2006
Pretty slate blue color -
It was windy today & many were blown onto the railing of the boardwalk - So I am not sure which tree he came from.

Moved

Tenthredinidae
probably Allantinae

Moved

Sawfly larva.
This is actually a sawfly larva. They have more prolegs (the stubby false legs) than caterpillars of the Lepidoptera (seven pairs vs. five if memory serves).
