Snout Beetle - Sphenophorus graminis

Snout Beetle - Sphenophorus graminis
In Westwood - elevation 5100ft, Lassen County, California, USA
October 10, 2010
Size: 9mm in height as posed
Found this beetle while I was digging post holes; down in one of the holes. Perhaps i should maintain a post-less post hole just for collecting! :)

Moved

Moved tentatively -- will ask Dr O'Brien to check
in any case, nice weevil, Jim.
[care to elaborate what does '9mm in height as posed' mean?]

Moved from Snout and Bark Beetles.

Good question!
I should of said "9mm in width as posed (from tip of snout to tip of abdomen)". Where I now live, in the mountains of northeastern CA there are no species of yucca, so perhaps this is a different species. Anyway, thanks so far for your help!

thanks!
just '9 mm' would be as clear as it gets :)

Dr O'brien's comment:
Did you notice his ID for this beetle under the other image of this beetle? (1) "Sphenophorus graminus" Chittenden. A new species for the Guide?

cool -- thank you so much for the headsup, Jim--
...and for the nice addition, too!
i sent the link to Charlie but was not subscribed to that 2nd image and missed his ID completely [one of BG system shortcomings]
