spider - Helophora insignis

spider - Helophora insignis
Dixville, Coos County, New Hampshire, USA
November 30, 2010
Size: 4.3mm
Found on the snow. I saw one in the guide recently with the white spot at the end of the abdomen like this, but I can't remember what it is.

Locality question
Hi Tom,

Just checking that I have the right coord. -- is this is the vicinity of Mud Lake? And I can't remember -- is there a difference between Dixville and Dixville Township?

Thanks,

-K

Locality
Not sure about the difference in Dixville and the township. But this was at a nature viewing rest area with trails on route 26 about a half mile east of Dixville Notch (the highest point in the road). The Balsams Resort is about a mile west of this.

Okay, that sounds right. That
Okay, that sounds right. That looks like Dixville Notch State Park. Is this more or less the same locality for all of your Dixville specimens (if you recall)?

Pretty much the same area in Dixville
Most of the collecting is in this spot,, and sometimes I go up a logging road across the street that goes up to a peak.

Moved
Moved from Wubana drassoides.

Helophora
Not Wubana but Helophora insignis.

# kmp-10067

Epigynum:

Very nice
Now I'll have to add this to my mental list of spiders with a dorsal white spot.

Moved
Moved from Spiders.
That gives us both male and female photos now. Thanks for the help!

From Rod Crawford:
I'd suggest Wubana drassoides (only species of the genus in MA).

Spider with white spot
I'm not saying that's what your spider is but

In fact, unless it's a trick of the camera angle, I'd guess they are not the same based on eyes.

Maybe the same
Mine has some sort of bump on the left lower front of her face, and it's not an eye. I'm hoping she's mature, so that I can try for an epigyne shot.
