I think this is a Dytiscid. Caught at lights, not far from the pond.
The front tibia are quite specialized.

Celina imitatrix
One of the larger species in the genus. Coarse irregular punctation on the elytra and dull microsculptured pronotum with large lateral punctures separate it from similar C. slossoni. Both species should be present in your area.
