Yes, I would say that they are related. I have other photos of the Aug. 22 caterpillar. From the time I collected it in the afternoon until I took more photos in the evening it had changed color from a light green to a dark green caterpillar. But it didn't survive which may have something to do with feeding it vetch instead of grass.

We would guess that this is an Acronicta
but don't know enough about early instars to tell you more :(

It does kind of have that look but I haven't been able to come up with any close matches. That's what I like about these insects and larvae. There's never a lack of something new to research.
