Spider Sac on Rock in NC

Spider Sac on Rock in NC
Connelly Springs, North Carolina, USA
December 10, 2010
Size: 1/2 inch
I believe this is a spider sac, but do not know what type of spider. Why would the sac be metallic? I have never seen a metallic spider sac. I would appreciate any information that might ID the type of spiders that create this type of sac. Thank You so Very Much!!

add ground spiders to the mix
see this Zelotes

Hmm...
There are some reasonably similar egg cases in Corinnidae...

...but they don't appear as "metallic" as yours.

There are also slime molds that resemble your find...

...but I wouldn't expect to find them on rocks.

Let's see what others have to say.

In the meantime, welcome to BugGuide!

Definitely a spider egg sac
You can see round bumps in the middle of the sac where individual eggs are bulging out. Castianeira egg sacs are metallic-looking, but I'm not sure if that's what this one is.
