under-pine-bark new imago - Asemum striatum

under-pine-bark new imago - Asemum striatum
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
April 6, 2006
Size: 13 - 14 mm
I was unsure what family this beetle was in as a pupa, and I'm still unsure. Here it is freshly emerged from pupa and lacking its full adult color.

You can see some congenital perforations in its elytra. I've noticed these in several of my recent imagos and wonder if they could be caused by my handling the pupae too roughly during my photo shoots.
