LEAF-CUTTING BEES USE OLD PAPER WASP NEST - CLOSEUP - Megachile

LEAF-CUTTING BEES USE OLD PAPER WASP NEST - CLOSEUP - Megachile
Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma, USA
December 11, 2010
I collected this abandoned Polistes exclamans nest which has the nests of leaf-cutting bees inside its cells. This is an unusual find because I've collected lots of Polistes nests in this area and this is the first one I've seen that is being used by leaf-cutter bees. Although this is unusual, it is NOT unheard of. Anyway, this is last year's nest that I collected this year. So, the wasps used the nest last year and the bees used the nest this year.
