Cyrtophorus verrucosus - male - female

Cyrtophorus verrucosus - Male Female
Frederick County, Maryland, USA
April 15, 2006
Size: about 8 mm
I found this pair on the trunk of an oak tree. They were very cooperative while I snapped some photos. After they separated, I temporarily placed them in a plastic container, where they began to mate again. I have to echo Stephen's comments - for some reason, these beetles look much more like ants in person than in photos.
