Aphaenogaster sp. - Aphaenogaster occidentalis - female

Aphaenogaster sp. - Aphaenogaster occidentalis - Female
North of Danville; Mt. Diablo foothills, Contra Costa County, California, USA
December 22, 2010
Had to point-and-shoot these. Nest series collected from beneath a rock in a disturbed oak grassland, which was heavily foraged by cattle.

I was unable to ID this using Creighton, and I no longer have Umphrey's review of the picea complex. Neither does this specimen (and her sisters) key well, nor does it match any Californian species from Ward's list.

Note heavily sculpted plurae; smooth and shining pronotal disk. Scape long; distance between corner of head and apex of scape is greater than two antennomeres. Help is greatly appreciated.
